Warning! Job Scam Relating to MMM Vacancies Has Resurfaced Again

MEDIA ADVISORY: WARNING! JOB SCAM RELATING TO MMM VACANCIES HAS RESURFACED AGAIN

It has once again come to the attention of the municipality that a job scam is persisting within and beyond the boundaries of Mangaung Metro. We have also picked it up that scammers are using different names of officials from the city, including that of MMM Head of Communication Qondile Khedama, soliciting money from job seekers.

The recent victim comes from Koffiefontein and was contacted by a Mr. Tshidiso Morapedi (which we suspect to be a fake name) to make the first upfront payment of R1500 and email her documents to Mr Khedama. She was further referred to an anonymous/non-existent security officer in the Bram Fischer Building who was supposed to meet her outside the building. This is a scam, and anyone who comes across this information or was contacted by this gentleman on behalf of Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality should know this is bogus.

We urge job seekers to not fall into this trap and if approached with such an offer, report these people to their nearest police station. Residents are cautioned to avoid sending money to any person or company purporting to be a recruitment agency on behalf of Mangaung Metro. Be wary of anyone requesting money in exchange for securing employment. Recruitment for employment in the City is done through advertisement and internal HR processes.

The first suspect has been arrested and SAPS detectives are currently on the hunt for a few more of them. Any person who was approached or has paid money to Tshidiso Morapedi should contact their nearest police station and report the matter.
