Public Notice: Update on Water Supply Interruptions
The water supply in most areas of the Mangaung has been on and off for almost two weeks, due to different challenges and one of them is debris or siltation during the rainy season which affects treatment plant capacity.
On Monday, 25 November 2024, notices were issued to inform residents about water rationing, which means areas of concern will be more affected as some bulk pipeline are running within residential areas to sustain hospitals.
The Maselspoort Water Treatment Plant is still under refurbishment of filters to ensure the City can produce compliant water quality. During this time of rationing, Arboretum reservoir will cater low surface areas that cover hospitals.
These are areas affected due to rationing process:
- Heuwelsig, Pentagon Park, Dan Pienaar, Bayswater, Universitas Ridge, Estoire, Gardenia Park, Fauna, Westdene, Spitskop, Phelindaba, Pellissier, Phase 4, 5 & 7, Phahameng, Rocklands, Heidedal and Fleurdal
These exercises will be implemented weekly and gradually be minimized while restoring reservoirs to lessen complete water shortage in case major incidents occur. Furthermore , it is advised that citizens with more than 2500 L tank capacity should close the storage except business that are on a rationed schedule.
The northern part of the City is also expected to get water on Thursday, 28 November 2024, as the system was empty due to a maintenance program at Maselspoort. Water tankers will be dispatched to high lining areas. The City apologises for the inconvenience caused.
