Update on Water Supply Interruptions (Public Notice)

PUBLIC NOTICE: UPDATE ON WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTIONS

Water supply has been restored in some parts of Bloemfontein, following the challenges encountered by the City’s water service provider, Bloemwater. Work is still continuing to ensure that all affected areas have access to water. Some of the questions residents have been requesting clarity to, are answered below:

• Q: What is causing the delay in restoration?

Answer: Due to high rainfall levels at the water resource catchment, this flooded the main raw water low lift pump. This caused reduction of treatment water which ultimately creates delays of full water supply storage.

• Q: When can communities expect full restoration?

Answer: While some areas have started receiving water, full restoration is anticipated this evening (22 Feb 23) and tomorrow early morning (23 Feb 23). This is because water supply is shared among the main water supply reservoirs i.e Brandkop and Longridge reservoir to balance the shortfall of the most affected areas.

• Q: What is the state of high lying areas?

Answer: Because of high water demand or usage, water supply will gradually increase until it is restored fully in high-lying areas.
To assist communities while work continues, water tankers have been dispatched and positioned at critical points of high-lying areas in Fleurdal, Phelindaba, part of Rocklands and adjacent areas.

We will consistently update members of the community on the progress. Mangaung Metro apologises for the inconvenience this is causing.
