Tala residents receive belated Christmas gifts from EM
While the season of giving has already passed, officials from Mangaung showed on Wednesday, 9 January that the spirit of giving need not end with Christmas.
Just in time for the 2013 academic year, the Executive Mayor Clr Thabo Manyoni accompanied by MMCs handed over school shoes to all 45 pupils at Tala Primary School in Thaba Nchu.
This was followed by a handover of food parcels to 220 families from Tala and surrounding villages, where some households have no source of income.
Beyond celebrating a belated Christmas with the rural communities, the EM reiterated that these regular trips to the villages should serve as a reminder that they are not forgotten.
The EM also emphasised that even in adverse circumstances, people should still share the little they have with others.
“Nothing is more important than us looking after each other – those who have more should share with those who lack – this is the only way we can succeed as a nation,” he said.
